We live in South Texas and have been looking for woven straw hats for this summer. In our research we found that all of the straw hats we could buy in the US, even those which advertise themselves as “Made in America,” such as Resistol and Stetson, are actually from China and are made of what is called “Washi paper” and are only “Finished” in the US such as lacquering and sewing in the sweatband.
So they are not even straw, just lacquered paper hats. We were really disappointed.
Then our research led us to Panama hats, and from there we found Modestohats. We ended up watching the video on the “About us” page here on the Modesto site. We were so impressed with the pride and honesty reflected in the video that we decided to buy 2 of the hats we liked.
The hats were shipped quickly and arrived in excellent condition in a sturdy box specifically designed for shipping hats.
The hats are even nicer than the pictures show. They really are made out of Toquilla Straw and the weaving is simply beautiful!
You will really be proud to own this hat! Especially when you know that everyone else is wearing a Chinese paper hat.
Since our first purchase, we have now bought a total of 7 hats from Modestohats and they are all amazing hand woven hats!
Now I really should go and leave a similar review on the other hats we purchased!
Also, Modestohats always answers e-mails promptly and have been great to work with, so you could say they have really good customer service!
